Gerald 'Jerry' Lee Nacht

It is with great sadness that we announce the death of Gerald 'Jerry' Lee Nacht of Helen, Georgia, who passed away on Oct. 30, 2022 at the age of 75. Gerald Lee Nacht was born July 5, 1947, in Hayward, California, to the late Bernard Theodore 'Barney' Nacht, (d. 1992), and Louise Effie (Brown) Nacht, (d. 1994). Jerry had an older brother, Bernard T. Nacht, (b. 1930), who also preceded him in death in 2002. When Jerry was a young boy, the family moved to Riverside, California and then on to Fairfax, Virginia, where he attended Thomas A. Edison High School through his Junior year. In 1964, the family moved to Atlanta, Georgia, where he attended his senior year at Therrell High School. Upon graduating, he then attended West Georgia College. During his time at West Georgia, he was a member of the Cavalier and Pi Kappa Alpha fraternity and a member of the West Georgia College Swim Team. In 1969, Jerry was drafted into the US Army and went to basic training in Fort Rucker, Alabama. He served during the Vietnam War as an Air Traffic Controller in South Vietnam from February, 1970 to April, 1972, achieving the rank of Specialist - E5. After proudly serving his country, Jerry returned to West Georgia College and continued his studies. In the late 1970's, Jerry moved to Helen, Georgia, where he lived a very robust life as a carpenter, painter and entrepreneur. He was also a highly skilled fisherman, loved camping/traveling, and was an avid collector. More importantly, Jerry made many very good friends and memories along the way. After a lengthy hospital stay fighting several health issues, Jerry passed peacefully on Sunday morning, Oct. 30, 2022 in Gainesville, Georgia. A memorial is planned for a later date. White County News · Cleveland, Georgia November 10, 2022
