In Memoriam

Kenneth Howard Johnson, 89, was born in New Haven, Connecticut on Sept. 4, 1934, to the late Astrid and Morton Johnson. He passed away in Helen, Georgia on Feb. 9, 2024.
Ken was a loving husband, father, grandfather, and great grandfather. He is survived by his wife of 63 years, Dorothy (Schmidt) Johnson, of Helen. He also leaves behind his children, Heidi Johnson Adams (Daniel) of Delray Beach, Florida, Mitzi Johnson James of North Palm Beach, Florida and Erik Johnson (Rachel) of Port St. Lucie, Florida; his grandchildren, Matthew James (Lanae) of Palmetto Bay, Florida, Julia Moore (Rhett) of Woodstock, Katie James of Kauai, Hawaii, Sarah Boone of Atlanta, Jenna Boone of Kennesaw, and Ty Johnson of Kennesaw; and his great-grandchildren, Logan James, Max James, and James Moore. Ken also leaves behind many nieces, nephews, and great nieces and nephews.
Ken was preceded in death by his sisters, Norma and Elinor; and leaves a surviving brother, Frank; and brothers-in-law George Schmidt and Timothy Schildge.
Ken and Dottie met at the German Club in West Haven, Connecticut while dancing. Ken became a Master Mason in 1958 and was an active member in the New Haven and Madison Connecticut Mason Lodges. Ken enjoyed a 35-year career at Pratt and Whitney, working in Connecticut and Florida. Throughout his life, Ken enjoyed his family, traveling, dancing, pizza and a good beer. Ken had a sweet soul, a wicked sense of humor and a legendary sweet tooth.
Donations can be made in lieu of flowers to Pruitt Hospice of Gainesville, 2545 Flintridge Rd, Gainesville, GA 30501.
A celebration of life will be held on Saturday, April 27, 2024 from 10:30 a.m. until noon at Barrett Funeral Home, 118 North Brooks St, Cleveland, GA 30528.

In Memoriam

Mrs. Linda McGuire, 81, of Cleveland, passed away Wednesday, April 10, 2024.
Mrs. McGuire was born in Union County to the late Roy and Pauline Woody Gooch. In addition to her parents, she is preceded in death by husband, Wayne McGuire; daughter, Sheree McGuire; son, Steve McGuire; sisters, Paula Anderson and Judy Rochelle; and brother, Gary Gooch. Mrs. McGuire was the former owner of Linda 's Convenience Store and was a member of Tesnatee Baptist Church. Linda will be fondly remembered as a faithful woman who not only loved God and her family, but was faithful to the end to those whom she considered as friends.
Survivors include her daughter and son-in-law, Katrina McIntyre (Shannon), Cleveland; grandchildren, Annie Mae Schollian (Joseph), Ben McGuire, Cara Ann Barrs (Sergey), Dakota McIntyre, and Gracie McIntyre; sister and brother-in-law, Tammy Pruitt (Gary), Flowery Branch; sister-in-law Dena Gooch, Suches; and numerous other relatives and friends.
Funeral services were held Sunday, April 14, 2024, from the Chapel of Barrett Funeral Home. Rev. Kevin Holman and Rev. Wayne McKinney officiated. Interment followed in Tesnatee Baptist Church Cemetery.
Flowers will be acknowledged; however, the family requests that memorial donations be made to “Mother's Safe Haven” at 25 Terrier Drive, Cleveland, GA 30528.
