The White County Board of Commissioners has named Eastman City Manager Jason Cobb as its sole finalist for county manager.

Cobb studied management at Georgia College & State University and holds a master’s degree in public administration from Valdosta State University, according to the county’s announcement Friday afternoon, March 13. He has worked in government services since 2010, including time as a community development planner for the Heart of Georgia Altamaha Regional Commission, and has experience in manufacturing management and retail.

Current county manager Mike Melton is set to retire at the end of April. Commissioners have met multiple times in recent weeks to narrow the field of applicants.

Georgia Sunshine Laws allow closed-door meeting to conduct interviews and deliberations for a county manager, provided that information on finalists is released publicly at least 14 days prior to a vote on hiring.

Commissioners are expected to make their final decision on hiring Cobb at a called meeting scheduled for 4:30 p.m. Monday, March 30.
