Mayo found guilty, receives life sentence

A White County man was sentenced to life in prison on Tuesday, March 10, after being found guilty for murder in connection to the 2017 death of his girlfriend.

On Friday, March 6, a jury found Justin Scott Mayo guilty on charges of malice murder, felony murder and aggravated assault, in connection to the Nov. 4, 2017 death of Stephanie Ann Smith, 42, according to Enotah Judicial Circuit District Attorney Jeff Langley.

He was sentenced by presiding Senior Judge Albert Collier to life in prison without the possibility of parole.  

Langley commended Assistant District Attorney Robert Wilson and GBI Special Agent Jamie Abercrombie on doing an excellent job with the case. Samuel Carolos Wood represented Mayo.
