The final stretch of the regular season is here for the White County High School basketball teams.

After a night off from the region schedule on Tuesday, the WCHS teams get back on the court Friday for the final home games of the 2019-20 campaign, taking on Chestatee.

After Friday's game, the WCHS teams find themselves in different positions heading into the last week of the season next week. The teams close out the season with road games against Denmark and Flowery Branch, before opening play in the 7-AAAA tournament during the first week February.

The Lady Warriors (15-7) are sitting in a good position heading into Friday's contest with Chestatee. The Lady Warriors are currently a half game behind Flowery Branch for the second spot in the region standings. While the Lady Warriors were off Tuesday night, Flowery Branch posted a win over Denmark to move to 8-2 in region play, Lady Warriors next with a 7-2 record. The Lady Warriors currently own the tiebreaker between the two teams thanks to a win over the Falcons earlier in the season.

Marist (20-1) leads the regular season region race with an 9-0 mark, with WCHS and Flowery Branch as the only other two teams with a winning record in region play.

On the boys' side, the Warriors  (11-11) knocked off West Hall last Friday to move to 3-6 in region play and are currently in fifth place in the region standings.

Denmark leads the regular season region race with a 9-0 mark, while Blessed Trinity is second at 8-2 after a close win over Marist Tuesday night. Marist is third with a 6-3 record, followed by Chestatee at 5-5.

With the win over Chestatee on Friday, the Warriors have a chance to catch Chestatee for the fourth place spot, but more than likely the two teams will meet in the opening round of the region tournament regardless of the outcome of Friday's game. The Warriors need to stay in the Top 5 in the regular season standings to avoid a first round tournament game against either Blessed Trinity or Marist, teams that both beat the Warriors twice during the regular season.
