Authorities rescue injured hiker

Authorities rescued an injured hiker on the Appalachian Trail on Thursday, April 11.
According to David Murphy, director of White County Public Safety, White County firefighters, with automatic aid from the City of Helen fire department, responded to a report of a hiker that fell and injured her ankle. The first responders hiked in and stablized the patient, who was placed in a stokes basket for removal.
The patient was brought to the command post, where she was taken by EMS to Northeast Georgia Medical Center, Murphy said. The total incident lasted three hours.
