Cleveland man charged with murder
A Cleveland man has been accused of fatally shooting another man following an argument.
Ronnie Elywnn Pate, 60, was arrested Aug. 15 and is charged with the murder of Joshua Tench, 31, of Cleveland. White County Sheriff’s Office deputies responded to a report of shots fired on Oglethorpe Lane, off of Eli Knob Road, at 1:05 p.m. on Wednesday, Aug. 15, according to WCSO Capt. Rick Kelley.
When authorities arrived, they discovered a man, identified as Trench, had been shot. Trench lived at the location with Pate, who was dating Trench’s mother, Kelley said.
There was an argument that began over a cup of ice they got at a store, and it escalated from there, Kelley said. During the argument, Pate allegedly shot Tench in the chest with a shotgun. Tench died at the scene.
The WCSO and the Georgia Bureau of Investigations (GBI) investigated the shooting, and Pate was charged with murder.
As of Tuesday, Aug. 21, Pate was still in jail and no bond has been set.
A full report will be included in the Aug. 23 issue of the White County News.
