Cleveland Police Department needs help in burglary investigation

The Cleveland Police Department hopes a hat and public tips can aid a burglary investigation.

The Chevron convenience store across from Truett McConnell University on Ga. 115 East was broken into on Sunday, May 12. The incident happened early in the morning while the store was closed, and the unknown perpetrator took an undisclosed amount of cash, Lt. Donna Sims, with the Cleveland Police Department, said.

Investigators are reviewing video footage to try to identify a suspect. Police say a camouflage hat was left at the scene. Anyone recognizing the hat (see photo) or who has seen somebody wearing it is asked to contact the CPD at the office Monday-Friday from 8 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. at 706-348-7078 or after hours on the non-emergency line at 706-865-2111. Those who call the office can ask for Sims.

The hat was sent to the Georgia Bureau of Investigations crime lab for DNA testing, Sims said.
