Helen’s Lighting of the Village kicks off Christmas festivities
With Thanksgiving here, that means Christmas is right around the corner. In fact, the next three weeks will have something for everyone.
In White County, the holiday season kicks off with the annual Lighting of the Village in downtown Helen. This free event will be from 6 to 8 p.m. at the Bandshell on Friday, Nov. 23. Santa and Mrs. Claus will arrive at the downtown bandshell as the village is lighted to begin the holiday season. After the Lighting of the Village, Cleveland will kick off the month of December with the 2018 Christmas in the Mountains Celebration & Lighted Parade on Saturday, Dec. 1. This event will be from 5 to 8 p.m. in downtown Cleveland. This free, popular community event is full of festive fun and fantasy. There will be pictures and visits with Santa, a holiday market on the Cleveland Courthouse Square, including Merry Merchants Open Houses, food, fun and musical performances in Freedom Park, luminaria lighting in Freedom Park, community Christmas tree lighting in Freedom Park and the annual lighted Christmas parade in downtown Cleveland.
