Man suffers burns while clearing property in White County
A Clermont man suffered 2nd and 3rd degree burns Wednesday afternoon in White County.
According to Ana Newberry, spokesperson for White County Fire Services, authorities responded to a call at approximately 1 p.m. at 3216 Highway 75 S in regards to a burn victim. When fire personnel arrived, they found Karson Coker, 26, who was clearing the property. He was about to burn the brush that was cleared for a construction project.
While lighting the brush, a flashover occurred that was most likely caused by the chemicals used to ignite the fire, Newberry said. The victim, who suffered burns on 30 to 40 percent of his body, was prepared for transported by fire and EMS personnel. He was taken to the landing zone on Westmoreland Road. Air Life 2 airflighted him to Grady Hospital in Atlanta. There were no other injuries reported.
