Raccoon tests positive for rabies
A raccoon in the Danny Palmer Road area of White County has tested positive for rabies, according to the White County Public Safety office.
After coming into contact with two dogs, the raccoon was sent to the Georgia Public Health Lab in Decatur for testing. White County Environmental Health was advised of the result Thursday, Nov. 9, making it the county's fifth confirmed rabies case this year in White County.
Signs alerting residents about the positive test will be posted in the area the raccoon was found. Those concerned about rabid animal exposure in that location should contact White County Environmental Health at 706-348-7698 during normal business hours.
Animal owners are encouraged to vaccinate their domesticated pets for rabies by making an appointment with a local veterinarian.
