Becky Leigh: My mom is my hero
I would like to nominate my mother, my hero, for the Mother of the Year in White County.
This past November, I was about to give birth to my first child. Of course, my mother was there, but she wasn’t expecting me to be diagnosed with leukemia hours before I gave birth.
She, of course, was her strong self and told me through choked-back tears that I was going to be all right. Since then, she has moved into our house in Suwanee.
She drives me back and forth to Northside Hospital every day for treatment, with most days beginning before dawn.
She then comes home, prepares dinner for five of us, helps with the baby, cleans the house and makes sure that I have whatever I need.
I simply don’t know how she does it, and in her 70s, no less. My mom is my hero.
