DNR to hold public hearing about Buck Shoals
The Georgia Department of Natural Resources is seeking public comments on proposed hunting regulations for the new Buck Shoals Wildlife Management Area.
An public hearing has been scheduled for 7 p.m. Tuesday, April 19, at the White County Senior Center, 1239 Helen Highway (next to the Mauney building, near the Hulsey Road intersection).
The Buck Shoals property is located along the Chattahoochee River on the southern end of White County. The DNR acquired the land several years ago with the goal of turning it into a state park.
But without the funding to staff the site or develop facilities there, DNR officials decided to transfer the property from the state parks section to the Wildlife Resources Division. It will now be operated as a Wildlife Management Area.
Proposed hunting regulations for the new WMA can be viewed at www.gohuntgeorgia.com/Hunting/RegulationChanges. This information will also be available at the public hearing.
Anyone who attends the meeting will be able to present data, make a statement, or offer a viewpoint or argument, either orally or in writing. If you wish to speak during the meeting, you must register when you arrive.
If you are unable to attend the meeting, you may submit comments online at www.georgiawildlife.com/hunting/regulations/SubmitComments.
You can also mail written comments to: Georgia DNR Wildlife Resources Division, Game Management Section, Attn: Don McGowan, 2070 U.S. Hwy. 278, S.E., Social Circle, GA 30025.
All comments must be received by Friday, April 29.
