Gunars Medins, M.D., M.S., F.A.C.S., 94, peacefully passed away on Feb. 11, 2019, in Gainesville, Georgia, after a short illness.
Gunars Medins, M.D. , a resident of Cleveland, Georgia, was born in Riga, Latvia, on Sept. 21, 1924. He was the son of the noted Latvian composer/conductor, Professor Janis Medins and operatic soprano Olga Medins.
After graduate work at Northwestern University in Chicago, Illinois, Dr. Medins practiced surgery in the former U.S. Canal Zone, American Samoa, Palau, Pakistan, Caroline Islands and the former Belgian Congo. He also had private practice in Kailua-Kona, Hawaii.
Dr. Medins is survived by his wife of 59 years, Carol Jean, and seven children: Peter, Tatiana, Juliette, Gunars Jr., John, Christian, and Maria Elena.
