White County continues to see positive trends for new infections of the virus that causes COVID-19.

The county’s seven-day moving average of confirmed COVID-19 cases has remained down since hitting a low point a few weeks ago.

The Georgia Department of Public Health’s April 20 status report showed the average at 1 daily case at that time, up marginally from 0.9 on April 13. Recent figures include 1.6 on April 6, 3 on March 30 and 1.7 on March 23.

For the month, there had been 24 confirmed cases reported through April 20. There were 52 confirmed cases reported during March, a notable drop from 187 in February, 656 in January and 692 in December.

DPH lists 2,951 total confirmed cases during the pandemic and 66 local deaths attributed to COVID-19.

The White County School System released its weekly status report

April 21, which showed there was one student who had reported positive for COVID-19 and no students quarantined for possible exposure at that time. There were no reports of staff members currently with a positive COVID-19 test and one report of a staff member quarantined for possible exposure.

An April 20 report from the Georgia Department of Public Health showed 11,125 vaccines had been administered in White County. The distribution report showed 6,135 residents had received at least one dose – about 21% of the population, with 5,205 residents considered fully vaccinated – about 18% of the population.

Earlier this week, District 2 Public Health announced some of its health departments will be changing schedules for offering vaccines.

That include the White County Health Department, which will move its daily vaccinations to its office at 1331 Helen Highway in Cleveland as of May 3. (The Health Department had moved vaccinations to The Bridge Church to increase how many could be administered in a day.)

As of May 3, vaccinations will be available only on Tuesdays at the Health Department, and walk-ins will be accepted from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. The clinic will close for lunch from 12:30 p.m. to 1 p.m.
