White County News

Growing up, Chris Dorsey wanted to get away from White County. He said it’s a big reason why he joined the Army.

In those four years he was gone, he fell in love with where he grew up.

“Traveling around the world, I realized we have a special place,” Dorsey said. “I couldn’t wait to get back.”

Now, Dorsey wants to serve White County.

He’s running for chairman of the White County Board of Commissioners in the 2024 election.

Dorsey says that his leadership ability makes him an ideal candidate for this position.

“You can drop me in any situation in just about any language, and we’re going to find a way to communicate,” Dorsey said. “We’re going to find a way to sit down and hash out problems, and do it in a peaceful way.”

Should Dorsey be elected, he wants to create policies that will preserve the White County he grew up with.

He said that he saw White County change a lot in the four years he was gone. He also wants to give the community a voice, something he believes has been missing recently.

“I have a real problem when the community feels like they’re not being heard,” Dorsey said. “That tugged on my heart.”

One major change he would like to make is to bring back term limits for government positions. He believes this would allow for a consistent stream of new ideas and innovation in the county.

“Power and control goes to everybody’s head,” Dorsey said. “It would go to my head, it’s just human nature.”

He also wants to create a citizens civics academy in order to educate and empower those who wish to be involved in their community.

“I’m not a career politician, I don’t plan on being a career politician,” Dorsey said. “I think there’s some things we can do, like empowering our community, that puts the power back in the hands of our community.”

While he does not have previous experience working in government, Dorsey is proud of the work he’s done.

Beyond serving in the Army, he’s also managed a few poultry plants and started a non-profit organization for veterans with PTSD. He believes those previous experiences have developed his leadership skills, and have set him up for future success.

“I think that my greatest accomplishments are yet to come,” Dorsey said. “I’m a fairly young guy, and I’m not going anywhere.”

Outside of work, Dorsey enjoys exploring nature, visiting historical sites and spending time with his family.
