Many White County residents tried out Georgia’s new voting machines during the 2020 election cycle, but if you haven’t gotten familiar with the setup – or want a refresher – you can head to the polls any time now to practice.

A training precinct has been setup at the White County Elections and Voter Registration Department. It’s available during regular business hours for anyone in the community wanting to explore the Dominion and KnowInk Election Equipment, says county Elections Supervisor Akyn Bailey.

Training material has been loaded on a poll pad, ballot-marking device (BMD) and a tabulator for people to practice casting a ballot and get familiar with the equipment.

“I hope this will build confidence within our community,” Bailey says.

The office is at 1241 Helen Highway, Suite 210- A, in Cleveland. Hours are 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. Monday through Friday. Call 706-865-7812 for more information or visit www.whitecountyga.gov/elections-and-registration.

The elections and registration office is also advising the community of a change regarding absentee ballot applications that have been automatically sent to select voters.

Previously, elderly and disabled voters were included on a permanent list to automatically receive an application to request an absentee by mail ballot. Georgia Senate Bill 202, which took effect this year, no longer allows that, Bailey says. Affected voters will be notified by mail.

She says these same voters will still be able to request the ballot application through her office by mail, email and online through the state’s My Voter Page (mvp.sos.ga.gov).

Bailey also says there is always a need of qualified poll workers. Anyone interested should contact the office.
