Ridge Road repair to begin soon

Repairs to Ridge Road in Helen are set to begin July 12.

The road, which runs from Ga. 75 Alternate to Escowee Drive, was damaged during storms in March. A portion of it was originally closed due to the road washing out on top of a hill near Escowee Drive. One lane of the road was reopened in May while awaiting repairs.

The work to repair the side of the road that collapsed is expected to take two weeks, said Helen City Manager Jerry Elkins. While the work is being done, the plan is to try and keep one lane open and only close it as needed.

“Be aware of the construction and avoid the road if possible. We do not know exactly when the road will be open or closed due to work being performed,” Elkins said.
