Charges are pending against the driver involved in an accident that injured a pedestrian on Monday, Oct. 11.

According to Georgia State Patrol Post 6, McKenna Elisabeth Peaster,19, of Clarkesville, was driving a 2011 Kia Sorento north on Helen Highway (GA 75/17) south of Hardman Road, when the vehicle went off the east shoulder of the road. Peaster lost control of the vehicle, which hit an embankment and started to overturn. While it was overturning, the Sorento hit Roland Fjallstrom, 74, of Sautee Nacoochee, who was on the walking trail. The Sorento came to a stop on the east shoulder of the road on the pedestrian walking trail.

Fjallstrom was transported by White County EMS with suspected serious injury to Northeast Georgia Medical Center Gainesville, GSP said. Peaster had a non-life threatening injury and was not transported.

GSP SCRT is helping with the investigation.
