Council recognizes city’s veterans

The city of Cleve- land, at its regular meeting Nov. 3, agreed to accept a bid for a 2-acre lot on U.S. 129 North. Although the address of the lot is listed as 0 U.S. 129 North, City Manager Kevin Harris described the location of it as “across from the waterworks.”
Terry Day’s bid of $170,000 was the highest received and unanimously accepted by the city council. In other business, the council agreed to provide sanitation services and road closures for the 2025 Christmas in the Mountains Lighted Parade Dec. 6.
In addition, the council unanimously passed a resolution recognizing Veterans Day on Nov. 11, “encouraging all citizens to recognize the valor and sacrifice of our veterans.” As part of the resolution, the names of law enforcement and firefighter veterans were read, including: Police Officer David Bruce, Deputy Chief Aaron Weiland, Sgt. Denton Vaughan, Sgt. Jamie Compton, Officer Nathan Hill, Officer Matt Reeves, Public Works employee James Thomas, Firefighter John Sovine and Capt. Stephen Sears.
