White County and Helen firefighters responded Wednesday, Feb. 22 to a report of a fire at a home on Starlight Drive in Sautee Nacoochee. The first units to arrive reported that the home was fully involved and confirmed that it was unoccupied. High winds had cause the blaze to spread through wooded areas endangering three other homes, which firefighters quickly contained. One of the homes received minor damage as a result of the fire.
No injuries were reported, but the house was a complete loss. The cause of the fire is under investigation by White County Fire Services in conjunction with Georgia Fire Marshal’s Office.
White County Emergency Services deployed the department’s drone to survey the area and monitor hotspots. Habersham County Fire responded acting in mutual-aid with a water tender. Georgia Forestry was also dispatched to contain the spread of the woods fire, which covered an area of approximately six acres. The White County Community Emergency Response Team also responded with their Rehab Unit and established a rehabilitation area to provide refreshments to fire personnel in recovery. Fire personnel remained on scene with Georgia Forestry until 9:30 p.m. and returned the next morning to monitor any more hotspots.
