    A partial overnight closure of Courthouse Square in downtown Cleveland is scheduled for Monday, Sept. 28, from 10 p.m. until 5 a.m. Tuesday, Sept. 29. The closure is necessary to allow crews to safely remove a tree near the historic courthouse.

    “The tree has for some time been a safety concern,” White County Manager Derick Canupp told the White County News. “On a number of occasions limbs have fallen that could have severely injured a pedestrian or damaged a vehicle. Additionally, if the tree ever falls and uproots, it would likely cause damage to the historic courthouse foundation.”

    Canupp said Whispering Oaks will remove the tree at a cost of $5,800 which will be paid by the White County Historic Society.

    The road closure will impact the northeast corner of Courthouse Square. County officials advise motorists to follow the detour route and use caution while traveling through the area. Drivers should also allow additional travel time during the closure.
