On April 19, City of Helen Police Department Sergeant Aaron Autry and Officer Graylon Bryson received a letter of commendation and were recognized by Interim Police Chief John Albino for their life-saving actions. On Sunday, March 27, 2022, around 3:40 a.m., Autry and Bryson were summoned to the Econo Lodge, located at 101 Edelweiss Strasse, to a medical call.
Autry and Bryson arrived on the scene within minutes of dispatch and discovered a female unresponsive in one of the rooms. The sergeant and officer administered Naloxone – medication used for the emergency treatment of known or suspected opioid overdose – and CPR until Helen Fire Department and White County Emergency Medical Services arrived on scene. Eventually, the female was revived and transported to the hospital.
“Because of the quick response of Sergeant Autry and Police Officer Bryson, and the use of the training provided to these officers, the woman’s life was saved,” stated Chief John Albino. “This is another example that Helen Police Department’s officers are here to serve, in whatever capacity, to ensure the ultimate well-being of our citizens and visitors.”
It is believed that Autry and Bryson’s quick response, action, and proper administration of Naloxone and CPR, coupled with the care from White County EMS and Helen Fire Department, led to the female’s survival. Chief John Albino recognized both officers for their life-saving actions with a Letter of Commendation and ribbon to be displayed on their uniforms.
