The United Way of White County awarded $75,000 in financial contributions to 14 community service groups at an allocation presentation Feb. 24 at United Community Bank’s Roy Ash Community Room.
Because of its fundraising events, contributions from an employer payroll deduction program and generous donations throughout the year, the United Way of White County is able to provide allocate funds each year to organizations and agencies providing a wide range of human services directly to White County residents.
“You’re receiving these funds today because your mission is to serve the needs of others in White County and its residents,” United Way of White County President Wayne Hardy told recipient representatives.
Organizations receiving 2022 funding include Catalyst Christian Learning Center, Circle of Hope, Cleveland Care Center, Community Helping Hands Clinic, Enotah CASA, Family Promise of White & Habersham, Habersham Homeless, Northeast Georgia Habitat for Humanity, Rape Response, South Enotah Child Advocacy Center, White County 4-H, White County Backpack Buddies, White County Caring and Sharing and the White County Food Pantry.
The United Way of White County is an entirely volunteer-operated organization, with its Board of Directors and committee members working together for the well-being of the community and its residents.
Hardy also commended his fellow volunteers for their efforts and tireless dedication to fundraising that supports the local organizations. The largest portion of funding is generated through the United Way of White County and the annual Darrel Chaney Invitational Celebrity Golf Tournament, which is scheduled for April 11-12.
Chaney, a former major league baseball player, and event co-founder Bill Sutton Jr. were on hand to tell about the experience and invite others to come have a good time for a good cause. The community is invited to sign up a team to play alongside a celebrity from the sports world, as well as take part in the fundraiser dinner that will feature dozens of live and silent auction items.
During the event, the United Way of White County also honored former board member Carl Free for his more than two decades of service through the organization, including a tenure as president.
