Carol Jackson has added her name to the list of declared candidates for White County probate judge.

The White County native is an associate vice president of North Georgia Technical College for regional economic development and has previously served in various public positions. Jackson points to her experience as clerk of courts for 14 years – where she served the Probate Court through administrative duties, as well as her six years as a state senator and three years as county manager.

“I commend Judge Garrison Baker for his tremendous work and salute his career.  I pledge to continue his good work.” Jackson said. “My goal is to insure a smooth transition of the changes and to conduct the duties of the Probate Judge with dignity, compassion and fairness.”

Baker, the county’s longtime probate judge, has said he will not seek re-election this year.

Jackson said she is a former chair of the White County Chamber of Commerce board, and her additional roles have included serving on the State Bar of Georgia’s disciplinary panel, being a judicial and legislative liaison for the Georgia Department of Juvenile Justice and serving  on the Sautee Nacoochee Community Association board. She is a member of Mount Yonah Baptist Church.

Jackson announced Tuesday, Feb. 25, her plans to qualify in the upcoming Republican primary. She said she had been approached about running by “a group of concerned people” who believed she was qualified to hold the office.

“I love my county and the people of White County,” Jackson said. “Nothing makes me happier than being able to serve.”
