The North Pole isn’t the only place where you’ll find helpers working to spread Christmas joy.
White County High School JROTC members are holding their own Santa’s Workshop collection drive to make the holidays brighter for families in need. The students are seeking toys, clothes, shoes and food for their giveaway planned for next month.
“I personally grew up not having many toys. I thought of this as a good idea because we have a lot of people in our schools that don’t have much food or many clothes,” says Katie White, a WCHS junior and JROTC student who helped launch the effort last year.
Donations can be delivered to WCHS. The current drive began in early November and will continue through Dec. 19-20, White says. That’s when students will sort donations of slightly used or new toys and wash clothing.
The Santa’s Workshop giveaway has been rescheduled for for 9-11 a.m. Saturday, Dec. 14, and 11 a.m. to 6 p.m. Saturday, Dec. 21, both at the JROTC range at the high school. Visitors were given a bag to fill with items they needed at last year’s event, which included toys and multiple racks of clothes, White says.
