White County has hit 1,000 confirmed COVID-19 cases, though its rate of new infections continues to slow.

That information comes from the Georgia Department of Public Health report on Tuesday, Oct. 27, White County had its first confirmed case reported in mid-March.

As of Oct. 26, the White County Emergency Management Agency considered 709 cases to be recoveries out of the 997 cases reported by DPH at that time. A patient is considered to have recovered 21 days after a confirmed case report is provided to the county.

DPH said Tuesday that Georgia’s seven-day moving average of new cases reported increased by 15% between Oct. 20-26, though it remained down 59% from the state’s peak July 24.

During that period, White County’s seven-day average of new cases decreased from 3.4 on Oct. 20 to 1.3 on Oct. 27. The DPH update listed seven new cases from Oct. 20 to Oct. 26. Counts for previous weekly periods were 24 from Oct. 13-20, 34 from Oct. 6-13, 68 from Sept. 29 to Oct. 6.

There have been 95 total cases reported through Oct. 27, according to DPH. For the month of September, the county has had 365 cases reported, compared to 217 total in August, 293 from July through mid-March when the first case was reported.

As of Oct. 27, DPH reported that there had been 23 deaths attributed to the coronavirus in White County. The ages of the deceased listed include men ages 26, 36, 60, 65, 68, 79, 81, 82, 83, 84, 85 and 88, and women ages 43, 56, 71, 76, 77, 82, 87, 88 and three over 90. All but three are listed as having chronic health conditions.

White County Schools

The White County School System weekly COVID-19 status report on Oct. 28 said there was currently one student who had reported positive for COVID-19 and 11 students quarantined for possible exposure at that time. At that time, there were zero reports of staff members with a positive COVID-19 test, and zero staff members quarantined for possible exposure.

The reported numbers reflect students and staff who are out on that particular day – in this case, Oct. 28 – because of either a positive test or exposure to somebody with COVID-19 and are not cumulative.
