White County News
With school set to start next week, White County High School finds itself in need of a new girl's basketball coach. Jarvis Davenport stepped down Thursday and will be the new boy's coach at North Hall.
Davenport ends his six-year stint in charge of the Lady Warriors' program with a 96-85 record, including six consecutive state playoff appearances. Davenport, who was named the Region 7-AAA Coach of the Year in 2018, took the Lady Warriors to the Sweet 16 in 2020.
Davenport's departure leads him back to Hall County where he made a name for himself first as a player and then as a coach. He was a standout player at East Hall, and then joined the Lady Vikings' staff as an assistant coach in 1998. In 2003, he became a boy's assistant coach at East Hall before eventually coming to White County in 2016.
WCHS athletic director Lloyd Collins said Friday morning that the school has started the process to get a coach in place.
“I'm happy for Jarvis, but we have to move forward,” Collins said. “We are going to name an interim coach for this season. We have several internal candidates that we are considering and we are hoping to have a coach in place by the end of next week.”
