WC places 10 on All-Region soccer teams

Although the high school soccer season came to an sudden end in March due to the coronavirus pandemic, it didn't stop several White County High School players from earning 7-AAAA All-Region honors.

The Lady Warriors, who ended the season at No. 8 in the Class AAAA poll, had three players named to the first team – Cassidy Campbell, Alexis Pashkovets, and Ada Smith, and two players – Hope Thomas and McKinley Jones named to the second team. For the Warriors, Iyan Windham, Andrew Pierce and Hayden Gensler were first team selections, with Dominic Stevens and Ian Sanchez earning second team nods.

The All-Region squad were announced this week after the voting process by the WCHS, Marist, Blessed Trinity, West Hall, Denmark, Chestatee coaching staffs.

All-Region Girls Team

The Lady Warriors' contingent of Campbell, Pashkovets, and Smith all garnered first team honors, along with Blessed Trinity's Delaney Brown, Livie McManus, Ella McGlynn, Chestatee's Kyleigh Drew. Jimena Villamor-Thompkins, and Hailey Cliché, Denmark's Lauren Murray, Jordan Watson, and Erin Watson, Flowery Branch's Maggie Wadsworth, Sarah Greiner, and Larsyn Reid, Marist's Annika Bryant, Liz Geeslin, and Alex Adair, and West Hall's Gisselle Vargas, Limbeth Hernandez, and Gladys Sepulveda.

Campbell and Pashkovets, both seniors, were key components in the Lady Warriors' stellar defensive unit. Campbell, the team captain,  finished the season with two goals and an assist, while Pashkovets had three goals. Smith, a junior, had four goals and four assists.

Jones earned a spot on the second team after leading the Lady Warriors with eight goals, while Thomas, a senior, had five goals and four assists.

Other second team members were Blessed Trinity's Zole Zagranski and Morgan Celilli, Chestatee's Elizabeth Leon and Gaby Galvez, Denmark's Lauren Williamson and Asia Gilmore, Flowery Branch's Anna Grady and Mackenzie Kent, and Marist's Reagan Kitchen and Caroline Furin.

All-Region Boys Team

A senior and a pair of juniors led the Warriors contingent on the All-Region first team. Iyan Windham wrapped up his prep career with a solid season in the middle of the field as the Warriors' captain. Windham had five assists and two goals, while controlling the pace of the game from the mid-fielder spot.

Gensler and Pierce were the Warriors' top offensive weapons during the shortened season. Gensler had a team-high 10 goals with three assists, while Pierce finished just behind Gensler in the goals with nine, and added six assists.

Other members of the first team are Blessed Trinity's Bradley Winter, Luke Franke, and Henry Mondi, Chestatee's Kevin Mendoza, Cristan Mendoza, and Reyes Yanez, Denmark's Shayahn Mirfendereski, Curry Coronado, and Taye Beckford, Flowery Branch's Andree Jimenez, Max Garnett, and David Perez, Marist's Nick Urbanek, Michael Wagner, and Shaun Gutmann, and West Hall's Christian Aldaco, Juan Aldaco, and Osman Turcios.

Sanchez and Stevens, both juniors, made the second team on the strength of their defensive effort, leading the Warriors backline unit.

Along with the heady defensive play, Sanchez had four assists this spring, while Stevens had a goal and an assist.

Other members of the second team were Blessed Trinity's Nick Stephens and Kyle Patterson, Chestatee's Eric Ortega and Luis Ruiz, Denmark's Blade Power and Jacob Pelletier, Flowery Branch's Sammy Leanos and Sal Sengson, Marist's Santi Bondaluch and Alex Meyerhoff, and West Hall's Dalnick Matos and Yovani Miranda.
