White County Recreation Department teams claim two Super Bowl V titles

White County brought home a pair of Super Bowl V titles last weekend during the final day of of the Mountain Football League season.

The Warriors' fourth grade and fifth grade teams both brought home league title during the Super Bowl event at Dawson County High School, while the second grade team was the runner-up.

Fifth Grade

The Warriors' fifth grade team capped off an unbeaten season with a 27-21 win over the Gilmer Bobcats. The Warriors finished 10-0 on the year with the win.

Members of the fifth grade team are Connor Henson-Ellington, William McSpadden, Kadence Robinson, Lane Bray, Jack Clark, Jaxin Hoosline, Caleb Hyde, Zachary Daniels, Rylan Guarino, John Jarrard, Jordan Spain, Preston Fawcett, Connor Talley, Christopher Friel Jr., John Nash, Coleman Dockery, Isaac Abernathy, William Johnson, Tucker Bentley, Braden Phillips, Thatcher Grier, Riley Hester, Bentley Justus, Mason Ferguson, Devin McDougald, Jacob Forrester, and Aleric Smith.

The team's head coach is Ryan Bray, with Avery Clark, Brandon McDougald, Grady Robinson, Gary Hoosline, Brandon Talley, and Ryan Grier serving as assistant coaches.

The Warriors got off to a quick start with Jaxin Hoosline ripping off a 55-yard run on the opening play of the game for a touchdown. Quarterback Lane Bray hooked up with John Jarrard for the 2-point conversion for a 8-0 lead.

Later in the first quarter, Bray scored on a 40-yard run to extend the lead to 14-0, but Gilmer bounced back with a scoring drive early in the second quarter to make it 14-7.

Bray struck again late in the first half, ripping off a 58-yard run and Jack Clark added the extra point for a 21-7 lead.

On the ensuing kickoff, Gilmer broke loose on a 70-yard return to cut the Warriors' lead to 21-14 at halftime.

The two teams traded touchdowns in the second half, with Bray and Jarrard hooking up on a 10-yard pass play for the game-deciding score for the Warriors.

Fourth Grade

The Warriors finished off an 8-1 year with a 13-0 win over Pickens County to take the fourth grade title.

Members of the fourth grade team are Camden Warnock, Cooper Gilreath, Eston Cantrell, Cash Lowery, Carter Moss, Jaden Stump, Preston Dove, Austin Wilford, Carson McDonald, Peyton Trigg, Ashton Elrod, Landon Brock, Brantley Reed, Bentley Hansen, Landon McDaniel, Rylan Hunter, Remi Randolph, Ryder Rewis, James Hobson, Kiyan Dorsey, Gianni Easton, Isaiah Deck, and John Taylor.

The team's head coach is Carlos Lowery, with Cleve McDonald, Desmond Lowery, Victor Moss, Ryan Elrod, and Thomas Deck serving as assistant coaches.

The Warriors used a pair of big plays on fourth down to get the job down against the Dragons.

In the final minute of the first quarter, the Warriors faced a fourth and goal at the 18-yard line. Quarterback Carter Moss found Cash Lowery open near the sideline around the 12-yard line. Lowery broke a pair of tackles and scored to give the Warriors the lead. Moss added the extra point to make it 7-0.

In the final minute of the second quarter, the Moss and Lowery duo struck again as he Warriors faced a fourth down situation from the 28-yard line. Lowery was wide open this time, and he hauled in a pass from Moss, and easily made his way into the end zone for a 13-0 lead.

The Warriors' defense held the Dragons out of the end zone in the second half to preserve the team's fifth shutout of the season.

Second Grade

The Warriors suffered their first loss of the season as Lumpkin County posted a solid defensive effort to take a 13-0 win over the Warriors.

Members of the second grade team are Wyatt Barrs, Pystol Bishop, Noah Cheatum, Zane Garrett, Matthew Garrett, Ryker Gilpin, Jaxon Grizzle, Logan Haynes, Wyatt Hunter, Kaden Jackson, Dillon Johnson, Jayce Kennedy, Landon McCallister, Brayden McCoy, Kyrie Moss, Kaeson Moss, Brayden Nichelson, Carson Parris, Ace Powell, Jaydon Purcell, Powell Schmidt, Brayden Sosebee, Bentlee Thiel, Weston Turner, Liam Ward, and Adam Wilford. The team's head coach is Victor Moss, with Dustin Johnson, Joseph Thiel, Wade Powell, Ryan Kennedy, Marty Garrett, and John Britton serving as assistant coaches.
