Board of Commissioner candidates gave their vision for White County’s future during a forum last Thursday. The forum was sponsored by the White County Chamber of Commerce, the White County News and local radio station WRWH, which hosted the event.

The candidate qualifying period is next week for anyone wanting to run for the White County Board of Commissioners and White County Board of Education. Qualifying will be held Monday, March 7, through Friday, March 11.

Detour planned for repair work along Skylake Road

Travel along Skylake Road in Sautee Nacoochee will be detoured during repair of culvert wing wall. At the Feb. 7 White County Board of Commissioners meeting, Public Works Director Derick Canupp said the damage to the wing wall became apparent after storms a few weeks ago.

A public hearing is planned to discuss newly proposed redistricting maps for the White County Board of Commissioners and county school board. County commissioners presented a draft map reflecting changes in the districts based on population data from the 2020 Census.

The White County Board of Commissioners has changed its designated use for nearly $6 million in federal American Rescue Plan Act (ARPA) funds that were once being considered for constructing a multipurpose building that could house emergency and pandemic response operations.
