Most White County residents have yet to complete the 2020 Census, as officials continue to promote the importance of being counted.

Multiple mailers have been sent out in recent weeks advising recipients on how to complete the Census online, by phone or by mail. A self-response tracker at 2020census.gov showed White County’s rate at 35.1% as of Wednesday morning, April 22. That’s in comparison to 48.1% for all of Georgia and 51% nationwide.

Local and state officials have stressed the importance of having as complete of a count as possible of those living here.

“The survey takes about 10 minutes to fill out. We need each household to fill out the survey in order to get accurate information for federal funding, as well as congressional, state and local political districts,” said John Sell, chairman of the White County Complete Count Committee.

There are three ways to fill out the survey:

• Go online at www.my2020census.gov.

• Call 1-844-330-2020 (English) or 1-844-468-2020 (Spanish).

• Fill out the paper survey that came in the mail and send it back to the U.S. Census Bureau.

For households that do not respond via one of these three methods by late May, representatives from the U.S. Census Bureau will attempt contact to ensure those people are counted.

White County had a 51% self-response rate in the 2010 Census, finishing with an 84% overall rate after Census takers made rounds.

The U.S. Census Bureau says it is bound by law to protect answers and keep them confidential.
