September is National Preparedness Month, and the White County Emergency Management Agency is working with to encourage citizens across our community to prepare themselves and their families for natural and man-made disasters.

Helen businesses will be able to apply to have outdoor café areas on their private property where they can serve alcoholic beverages during Oktoberfest. The Helen City Commission approved a resolution Sept. 1 allowing the move as part of a citywide special event declaration.

White County Middle School’s Project Unify club recently helped achieve a first in Georgia.

White County’s unemployment rate continued to decline in July, according to a report released last week by the Georgia Department of Labor.
