The City of Cleveland released a statement on Monday confirming that leaders are currently evaluating potential annexations along key corridors surrounding the city “to better align the city’s municipal boundaries with the areas and primary corridors it already serves.”
City officials maintain that Cleveland city utility services have, for years, extended beyond portions of Cleveland’s incorporated boundaries along primary transportation and growth corridors.
The city is considering extending its limits about 1.6 miles along Highway 129 South, from Truelove Road to Westmoreland Road. The proposed annexation would include the roadway right-of-way and parcels directly fronting Highway 129 South.
“No residential tracts or parcels that do not directly adjoin Highway 129 South have been considered for annexation, nor will they be included in any proposed annexation,” according to the statement. “Public hearings will be held before any final action is taken.”
The City of Cleveland is also considering annexing the roadway right-of-way from the current city limits northward to Hulsey Road per a request from White County.
“The city is currently evaluating this area and developing a draft that would best align municipal boundaries with the city’s existing service area while also considering the county’s request,” according to the release. “No final map or boundaries have been determined for the North Cleveland area. Once a specific map has been developed, it will be made available for public review and input as part of the public process.”
Cleveland city officials stressed that staff would, in time, provide maps and other information to the public regarding the areas being considered and would hold public hearings to receive community input before any final decisions are made.
