The Department of Public Safety held an award ceremony to recognize the life-saving work of six firefighters on May 9.
On October 8, 2021, Firefighter Sosebee responded to Leatherford Road for a gunshot wound call. Upon arrival, firefighters Shad Sosebee, Jackson Cantrell, and Austin Brown applied a tourniquet to the patient, preventing further life-threatening bleeding and saving the patient’s life. Director of Public Safety David Murphy pointed out that Sosebee was not even on shift when the incident happened and commended him on fulfilling his duty even in his off time.
On April 28, 2022, responded to an overdose on Tommy Cowart Road. Upon arrival Firefighters Tommy Steen, Steve Hopper, and AJ Staton administered CPR and resuscitation efforts on the patient. They also administered Narcan, and their efforts were able to save the patient’s life.
Murphy concluded the meeting by thanking every fire fighter that makes the county a safer and better place to live. “I personally sleep better at night knowing these guys are out there,” said Murphy.
