Firefighters honored for life-saving work

The Department of Public Safety held an award ceremony to recognize the life-saving work of six firefighters on May 9. On October 8, 2021, Firefighter Sosebee responded to Leatherford Road for a gunshot wound call.

A one-time bonus of up to $1,000 will be coming to eligible county public safety and first responder personnel. The extra pay comes courtesy of a Georgia supplemental grant program funded through the federal American Rescue Plan Act. White County’s total grant award is $127,995.

Safety officials offers tip to prepare for winter weather events

With forecasts showing the potential for a winter weather event this weekend, the White County Emergency Management Agency is reminding the public of preparation steps and safety tips to better handle possible snowfall and ice accumulation.

White County Fire Services appears set to acquire new automated external defibrillators (AED), courtesy of a grant from the Firehouse Subs Public Safety Foundation. The county Board of Commissioners voted to accept the $17,006.88 grant during a April 15 called meeting.
