The Cleveland Police Department responded to a residence at Twin Springs Apartments, Truett McConnell University’s student housing, Sunday, Sept. 20, regarding a report of an unresponsive person. Officers responded at 5:18 p.m. and located a deceased male inside the residence.
According to a press release from the Cleveland Police Department, foul play is not suspected. The White County Coroner’s Office transported the body to the Georgia Bureau of Investigation for medical examination. The case remains under investigation.
Cleveland Police Chief Jeff Shoemaker confirmed Monday that the death was that of a Truett McConnell University student. Shoemaker also confirmed the student’s family has been notified.
Truett McConnell University confirmed the death of a student in a Facebook post Monday, Sept. 21.
“With heavy hearts, we confirm the death of a TMU student yesterday on campus,” the university said.
The university did not release the student’s name or additional details, citing respect for the family’s privacy and the ongoing investigation. TMU said it is working with authorities and providing counseling, pastoral care and other support to students, faculty and staff affected by the loss.
