The driver of a pickup truck was found dead after a Monday afternoon crash in which the vehicle went down an embankment in Sautee Nacoochee.

Authorities responded around 3:54 p.m. Nov. 18 to a report of an accident on Lynch Mountain Road.

A 1990 Toyota pickup truck driven by Edgar H. Jones, 70, of Clarkesville, was traveling south on Lynch Mountain Road when it failed to maintain its lane, according to a statement from Georgia State Patrol. This caused the vehicle to go off the left shoulder of the road and down an embankment where it struck a tree with the driver side door. The vehicle overturned after impact before it came to an upright stop.

The GSP stated that a person passing by noticed the vehicle off the roadway and contacted emergency personnel. The exact time of the crash is unknown, but Jones was last heard from the night before, according to GSP. Jones was wearing his seatbelt.
