A community memorial for White County residents who have lost their lives because of COVID-19 is planned for next Thursday.

The White County Board of Education, White County Board of Commissioners and the City of Cleveland will host a community-wide candlelight memorial service at 6:30 p.m. April 22 at Freedom Park.

The service is expected last an hour, and attendees are encouraged to bring seating. Those in attendance are also encouraged to follow CDC guidelines and practice social distancing.

White County High School junior Samuel Shobert proposed the idea when speaking to the school board in January about his experience with COVID-19. He said he had lost a grandparent to the coronavirus.
