The White County Recreation Department's 8U softball team punched their ticket to the Georgia Recreation and Park Association's Class C state tournament by winning the District 7 title last weekend in Homer.
The team's district title gives the team a berth in the state tournament, which will be played June 25-29 in Putnam County.
Members of the 8U team are Lily Thomas, Gabby Branson Weslynn Vandegriff, Kamryn Pressley, Cora Biddy, Vivian Barton, Zoe Hester, Madison Worley, Bravely Lisk, Reagan Moose, Breckan Milligan and Harper Ward. The team's head coach is Brandon Hester, with Tim Milligan, Dee Brannon, Jessi Biddy and Heather Ward serving as assistant coaches.
The Lady Warriors posted a 5-1 record during the district tournament, outscoring their opponents 105-54, and averaged 17.5 runs per game.
The Lady Warriors opened the tournament with a 20-2 win over Banks County, and then knocked off Towns County 19-3. In the winner bracket final, Lumpkin County won a high-scoring affair 26-16 to put the Lady Warriors in the elimination bracket. The WCRD squad responded with an 18-3 win over Banks County to earn a spot in the championship series with Lumpkin County. The Lady Warriors had to win back-to-back games against the Lady Indians, were undefeated. White County earned a 22-19 win a tight battle to force a second game and the Lady Warriors rolled to a 10-1 win to clinch the title.
