A familiar face is taking the reins of the White County High School football program.

Chad Bennett, who spent four years as the Warriors' offensive coordinator, was approved by the Board of Education Friday morning to be the team's next head coach. Bennett takes over the role from Tim Cokely, who resigned following the 2021 season.

“On behalf of the White County Board of Education, superintendent Laurie Burkett, and principal Mary Anne Collier, I am pleased to announce that Chad Bennett has accepted an offer to become the new head football coach at White County High School,” WCHS athletic director Lloyd Collins said in a press release.

Bennett has 17 years of high school coaching experience and is returning to White County after being at Gainesville this past season as the offensive coordinator. During Coach Bennett’s time at WCHS, he led the offense to the first, second and fourth best-scoring offenses in school history. The 2020 offense was the third highest scoring offense in Class AAA. Prior to White County, Bennett coached at Flowery Branch High School (2008-2012 and 2016-2017) and Rabun County High School (2012-2016)

"I'm super excited to be coming back,” Bennett said Friday morning. “I can't wait to get up there and get to work. It's a blessing, and I'm very grateful for the opportunity. I've missed being there and just excited to be coming back home.”

Collins is also excited to have Bennett back on the WCHS staff.

“We are adding another high-caliber coach to our staff with Coach Bennett,” Collins said. “His enthusiasm and work ethic will impact all of our student-athletes at WCHS.”

Collier said Bennett's brings a lot to the table for the school and the football program.

“We are excited to have Coach Bennett back at WCHS. His knowledge of the game, work ethic and organization are qualities that will help make him a successful head coach,” Collier said. “We are excited about the future of the football program.”

Bennett will be introduced Friday night between the WCHS varsity basketball games against East Forsyth. The school will host a meet and greet with Bennett at a later date.
