WCHS nets a pair of wins

The White County Lady Warriors picked up two more wins over the past week, including getting an Area 6-AAA victory over Chestatee.

The Lady Warriors are now 6-9 on the season, with a home tri-match on the docket for this afternoon as the team celebrates Teacher Appreciation Day. The Lady Warriors will take on McDonough High and Cherokee Bluff in the non-area tri-match, with action beginning at 5 p.m.

On Tuesday, the Lady Warriors played a pair of area matches in Dawsonville, picking up a three-set win over Chestatee, but dropping the second match to Dawson County.

Against Chestatee, the Lady Warriors got off to good start with a 25-23 win in a tight battle in the first set. The Lady War Eagles rallied in the second set to stay alive, winning 25-19 to force a third set. WCHS got three kills from Daylee Barrett and Kalynn Watkins during the deciding set, along with aces from Barrett, Watkins and Addi Conner to get a 15-7 to clinch the match.

Barrett finished with nine kills, seven digs, four aces and three assists, while Aslyn Burkett had nine kills, an assist and a dig. Watkins added seven kills, 16 assists, five digs and three aces. Caroline Tatum had a kill and two digs, Emma Barton had five assists, five digs and a kill, and Kennedi Seabolt had a kill.

Conner finished with five digs, four assists and a kill, Bella Pilgrim had five digs and two aces, and Brielle Black had two kills.

In the match against Dawson County, the Lady Tigers took control in the first set and posted a 2-0 victory.

Barrett had four kills and a dig, while Watkins added two kills, three assists and three digs. Pilgrim had three aces and two digs, Burkett had two digs and an assist, and Conner had two digs and an ace.

Sophia Butcher finished with two digs and an assist, Tatum had a kill, Barton had an assist, and Seabolt added a dig.

Last week, the Lady Warriors picked up a non-area win over Gilmer, winning 3-1 in a best of five set match.

The Lady Warriors won the opening set, 25-18, and after Gilmer picked up a 25-14 win the second set, rolled through the next two sets to cap off the win. WCHS won the third set by a 26-19 final and then clinched the match with a 25-18 win in the fourth set.

Burkett led the attack with a season-high 15 kills, and had two blocks, an assist and five digs. Barrett finished with 11 kills, 15 digs, three aces and an assist. Tatum added four kills and two blocks, with Seabolt finishing with three kills and a block. Mya Palmer added two kills, a block and a dig,

Black had two kills and two blocks, Watkins had 11 assists, six digs, two aces and a kill, while Barton totaled 16 assists, eight digs and four aces. Conner had 10 digs, three aces and five assists.
