Basil Ray has joined the White County News as a reporter.
Ray, who is originally from Wayne County, previously worked for the Press Sentinel Newspaper as a news intern. In this role, he covered sports, general news, and city meeting coverage.
He earned a Georgia Press Association award for his work at the Press Sentinel, winning second place in Feature Photograph Division C in the 2024 Better Newspaper Contest.
“We are excited to have Basil join our team,” Editor Samantha Sinclair said. “His talents are a great match for our newspaper, and we can’t wait to see how helps our coverage grow.”
Ray also has a background in sports media, working with several collegiate and high school athletic programs throughout Southeast Georgia.
Ray is a graduate of Wayne County High School and is currently enrolled at the University of North Georgia where he is pursuing a degree in Film and Multimedia studies.
Ray is an avid outdoorsman, growing up on a ranch, he grew up fishing, hunting, and being around wildlife, he cannot wait to explore the nature of White County.
“I really enjoyed being involved in the Wayne County community and I cannot wait to see what White County has to offer,” Ray said.
