The Georgia Bureau of Investigation has been requested to investigate the death of a White County Detention Center inmate.

According to a release from White County Sheriff’s Office Capt. Clay Hammond, Joe Sertain, 38, of Gainesville, and Joey Loggins, 37, of Cleveland, were arrested Monday, May 24, following a traffic stop at U.S. 129 South and Old Highway 75 South. The men were arrested on outstanding warrants and were also charged with possession of methamphetamine, according to the statement. Jail records show the arrest occurred at noon and Sertain was booked at 1:25 p.m. on May 24.

The two men were transported to the detention center. According to Hammond, at approximately 5:42 p.m. on May 24, Sertain suffered a medical emergency. He was taken to Northeast Georgia Medical Center, where he later died.

The White County Sheriff's Office requested the GBI to investigate the matter.
