James Dennis McCormick, 27, of Lawrenceville, has been identified as the suspect in the alleged attempted armed robbery of Taco Bell in Cleveland late last night.

In a press statement, Cleveland Police Chief John Foster said a call came in about 11:58 p.m. about an armed robbery. McCormick is accused of trying to rob the restaurant with a .45-caliber handgun, but employees were able to overpower him while police were called. Officers arrived and took McCormick into custody.

During his encounter with the employees, McCormick received some road rash. He was checked and cleared by EMS, according to Foster.

"Suspect is now resting in the White County Jail after his encounter," Foster said.

McCormick has been charged with armed robbery, two counts of aggravated assault and possession of a firearm during commission of or attempt of certain crimes. No bond has been set as of Thursday afternoon.
