The City of Cleveland is conducting a leak detection investigation into their water system.
Leak detection up to water meters is needed as part of maintenance on water lines, City Administrator Tom O’Bryant told city council members at an April 12 meeting.

Three vehicles were involved in an accident on Saturday, April 10, on Hwy. 75 near Trey Mountain Road.
According to the accident report from Georgia State Patrol, a 2008 Jeep Liberty driven by Freddie White, 81, of Oxford, was negotiating a curve to the right while heading north on Hwy. 75.

Cleveland man killed in Saturday accident

A Cleveland man died in a single-vehicle wreck on Saturday, April 10.
According to a Georgia State Patrol accident report, William Scott Bentley, 69, was heading south on Ga. 75 (Helen Highway) in a 2005 GMC Sierra.

On April 7, firefighters from White County graduated as emergency medical responders, according to White County Public Safety Director David Murphy.

County COVID-19 cases remain low

White County’s seven-day moving average of confirmed COVID-19 cases dropped over the past week.
The Georgia Department of Public Health’s April 6 status report showed the average at 1.6 daily cases at that time, down from 3 on March 30. Recently figures include 1.7 on March 23 and 1.4 on March 16.

Lawmakers OK new building authority

Cleveland is one step closer to setting up a new building authority.
City Administrator Tom O’Bryant told Cleveland City Council members that local legislation to establish the Cleveland Building Authority was passed by Georgia General Assembly is now awaiting the signature of Gov. Brian Kemp.

Business owner proposes downtown parking expansion option to Cleveland City Council

A downtown Cleveland businessman recently proposed an option to add parking spaces on the square.
Ward Gann, owner of Clyde’s Table & Tavern and other downtown property, spoke at the Cleveland City Council April 5 and shared his concern about parking on the square as it continues to grow.
