Authorities respond to Friday chimney fire

Authorities responded to a chimney fire at a residence on Monroe Ridge on Friday, Feb. 26. According to White County Public Safety Director David Murphy, at 5 p.m., firefighters responded to a 2,000 square foot rental cabin, and found it was 30% involved through the roof.
A boil water notice has been issued on Feb. 25 for City of Cleveland water customers at the following locations: South Main Street (Highway 129 South) at Townview Dr. south to Dollar General.

UPDATE: As of 12:40 p.m. in Saturday, Feb. 27, the boil water notice has been lifted.  A boil water notice has been issued on Feb. 25 for City of Cleveland water customers at the following locations: South Main Street (Highway 129 South) at Townview Dr. south to Dollar General.

Jones turns pork project into new book

Local author Emory Jones has been known to ham it up with stories about the adventures of his pet pig, Cunningham. Those humorous columns appearing in the White County News have grown quite a following in recent years – so it’s only natural that he finally wrote a book that goes whole hog.

Authorities battle Feb. 24 woods fire

Authorities responded to a report of a woods fire on Long Mountain Trail on Wednesday, Feb. 24. The National Weather Service labeled the day as a High Fire Danger Day due to the warm temperature, low humidity, and a gentle breeze.

Georgia Power will install two electric vehicle charging stations at Freedom Park in Cleveland. The White County Board of Commissioners approved an agreement with Georgia Power during a Feb. 18 called meeting.
