A residence on Partin Road in Cleveland was damaged in a fire on Friday, Jan. 29.  According to White County Public Safety Director David Murphy, a call about the residential fire came in at 12:37 p.m.

Shoemaker named new Cleveland police chief

by Stephanie Hill White County News   Jeffrey Shoemaker will be the Cleveland Police Department’s new chief. The Cleveland City Council voted 3-1 to hire Shoemaker at a Jan. 25 called meeting to consider selecting a police chief. He was among three finalists named Jan. 11, along with CPD Maj.
As the new White County Board of Elections works on developing its policies and procedures, the group will be studying the possibility of consolidating some of the county’s 11 voting precincts.

Cleveland appoints new police chief

In a 3 to 1 vote, the Cleveland City Council approved the appointment of Jeffrey Shoemaker, of White County, as the new Cleveland Police Chief during its meeting on Monday, Jan. 25. Shoemaker is currently employed with the Hall County Sheriff’s Office.

Pets of the week for the week of Jan. 25, from White County Animal Control and Charles Smithgall Humane Society. Whitney is a female pit/mix and is approximately 4 years old. A dog does not get any sweeter than Whitney, and she has done great with all other dogs.

Fasching fun coming to Helen

It’s almost Mardi Gras, which means it’ll soon be Fasching time in Helen. Kicking off the celebration will be the 5th Annual Helen Hüttengaudi Pub Crawl and Scavenger Hunt on Jan. 29-30 hosted by the Faschingsverein Helen group.
