Longtime White County Sheriff Neal Walden was showered with words of praise and gifts at a Dec. 3 celebration of his upcoming retirement, held at First Baptist Church in Cleveland.
Several speakers lined up to honor Walden for his 41-year career in law enforcement, including 29 years as sheriff.

White County will have a new sheriff in 2021 following the retirement of Neal Walden.
Five candidates are running for the office: Aaron Autry, William Garrett, Rick Kelley, John Murphy and Jeff Ramey.
Jeff Ramey is the latest to announce plans to run for sheriff.
Ramey, 52, says he will run as a Republican in a bid to bring change to White County Sheriff’s Office operations.
Will Garrett says his experience has prepared him to serve as White County sheriff and take on the responsibilities of serving the community.
Garrett, 39, recently told the White County News he plans to qualify for the 2020 sheriff’s race as a Republican.
Another veteran lawman will be running for White County sheriff in 2020.
John Murphy says he’ll bring more than three decades of law enforcement experience as he seeks the office. After retiring from the White County Sheriff’s Office in 2016, he says he feels called to pursue a new chapter.
