Incumbents Linda Erbele and Lyn Holcomb successfully fended off primary challenges in Tuesday’s primary election in White County.
Erbele received 3,754 votes in the Republican race for White County School Board. Challenger Laurin Terry finished second with 1,668 votes, followed by James King with 796 votes.
“I’m happy the voters have had their say,” Erbele said Tuesday night. “Now I hope that people will unite behind the board as the real work of supporting our students, parents and teachers begins.”
In a statement issued Wednesday morning, King said: “I congratulate Linda Erbele on her victory, and I hope that you will join me in praying for God to grant Linda wisdom and strength so that our students and teachers can learn in the best environment possible”
Incumbent school board member John Solomon was unopposed and received 5,818 votes.
Holcomb defeated challenger Debora Palmer 1,076-443 for the Republican nomination in the Board of Commissioners District 2 race.
He will face Democrat Mike Vincentis, who ran unopposed and received 64 votes, in the November general election.
Incumbent commissioner Edwin Nix was uncontested and received 1,368 votes.
In the race for United States Senate, Herschel Walker picked up 4,018 votes in White County. He will meet incumbent Democrat Raphael Warnock, who received 457 local votes, in the fall.
In a closely-watched governor’s race, incumbent Brian Kemp easily defeated David Perdue for the Republican nomination. Kemp beat Perdue 4,885-1,425 in White County, and went on to win statewide. As of Wednesday’s unofficial totals, Kemp was leading Perdue 259,495-40,735 statewide.
He will face Democrat Stacy Abrams, who picked up 454 local votes, in the fall.
In the race for U.S. Congress, incumbent 9th District Congressman Andrew Clyde easily defeated challenger Michael Boggus 90,456-4,223 district-wide. He will face Michael “Mike” Ford, winner of the Democrat nomination, in the fall.
A total of 7,153 county voters participated in the primary election, which is 34.7 percent of the county’s 20,616 registered voters.
